This week on the show, I’m joined by the incredible Gem O’Reilly, international country singer-songwriter and guitarist, with special thanks to Chris Groundsell for his guitar.
Dubbed by BBC Radio as “The British Taylor Swift”, Gem has been making waves in the music industry since she was signed at just 17. With a No. 7 hit in the UK Country Charts and four original albums broadcast across national BBC Radio, she’s a true force in modern country music.
Her latest release, Fire, dropped in late 2024, showcasing four brand-new songs recorded live with her band at a festival. You can find it now on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major music platforms.

On today’s episode, we welcome a very special trio to the 1230 TWC Business Beat:
Cllr Jonathan Andrews, Mayor of Bromley

The Maypole Project – providing emotional support for children with complex medical needs and their families.
The Mayor’s Role – More Than Just Ceremonial
We’ll be exploring what the mayoralty means in a local context, why the position still matters, and how it helps strengthen the community. Jonathan shares his experiences from countless visits to community and charity events, where he meets volunteers, entrepreneurs, and local heroes who keep Bromley thriving.

In this episode of the 1230 TWC Podcast, we’re joined by the inspirational Sonia Brown MBE — a powerhouse business strategist, diversity champion, and founder of the National Black Women’s Network. With over two decades of empowering entrepreneurs and corporate leaders, Sonia is a trusted voice in inclusive leadership, enterprise development, and impactful marketing.
She shares sharp insight on how small businesses can remain relevant and resilient in an evolving economy — especially for underrepresented founders navigating complex challenges.
🔍 Hot Topic Discussion: Small Business Survival in a Shifting Economy
Q1: With rising inflation, increasing global instability, and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence across industries,
what core strategies do you believe are essential for small business owners to remain competitive and relevant in the next 3 to 5 years?
➡️ In particular, how can underrepresented entrepreneurs who already face systemic barriers adapt their business models, strengthen digital capabilities, and maintain purpose and visibility in a rapidly changing market?
💡 The Power of Community & Inclusive Networks
Q2: In today’s climate, where access to funding, exposure, and meaningful business opportunities continues to be a challenge for early-stage entrepreneurs,
what specific role do inclusive business networks and culturally competent leadership play in helping small businesses thrive?
➡️ How can these systems actively break down barriers for minority founders and support the creation of sustainable, scalable growth models — especially in a digital-first economy that often favours larger players?

🎤 Meet My Guests
💡 Sian Murphy – Founder of Stepping Out & Women in Business Radio Show
Sian Murphy is a powerhouse in the small business world—host of the Women in Business Radio Show and organiser of the Women in Business Big Show. She's recently launched Stepping Out, a deeply insightful business programme endorsed by the Federation of Small Businesses.
Stepping Out is all about reconnecting with your business, your vision, and each other. It’s a space to breathe, reflect and reset—something many of us forget to do.
🎧 We Discuss:
How the idea for Stepping Out came to life
What to expect at the Women in Business Big Show 2025 – including dates, stands, and prices
Sian’s top tip: “Connect with your plan every single day—before the to-do list takes over!”
And another powerful reminder: “Know yourself—ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism… so many entrepreneurs have these traits. Awareness is power.”
🌍 Sonia Brown MBE – Founder of NBWN & Global Leadership Strategist
Sonia Brown is a true force in business transformation, DE&I, and leadership. She’s the founder of the National Black Women’s Network and creator of the EVOLVE Programme, helping women lead with confidence, authenticity and purpose.
We dived into how we limit ourselves—and how to think beyond borders.
🌎 Key Questions:
What belief have you held about going global—and what would happen if you let it go?
What small action can you take this month to show up as your global self—loud, proud and visible?
